Harry Lloyd's Story
Harry Lloyd Thornton, Jr., age 88, of Newburyport, formerly of Melrose, died May 12, 2017, at Anna Jaques Hospital. He was the devoted husband of 62 years to Evelyn Jean (Herrick) Thornton.
Born in Stoneham, October 17, 1928, he was the son of the late Harry Lloyd Thornton and Anna Linnea Haggkvist and was a graduate of Melrose High School. After high school he went on to receive his bachelor degree in Physics from Upsala College in East Orange, N.J.
He served stateside with the United States Air Force during the Korean War, from October 30, 1951, until his honorable discharge on June 18, 1953, with the rank of Lieutenant.
He was a Professional Engineer with his own company, Lambert Sawyer Company of Lexington, Mass., and had a consulting business up till the time of his death.
In addition to his wife, Evelyn of Newbuyrport, he is survived by three sons, Steven Thornton and wife, Lisa of Windham, N.H., Dave Thornton of Newburyport, and Alan Thornton and fiance, Michele Desoto of Amesbury; his four beloved grandchildren, Lauren, Elyse, Allison and Alexander; a sister, Charlotte Rankow of Chapel Hill, N.C.; along with several nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends and colleagues.
Funeral services and burial will be private for the family. Arrangements are by Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury.
