Grace I.'s Story

Grace Irene Lake, 84, of Seabrook, passed away peacefully in the arms of her beloved family on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at her home.
She was born in Salisbury on June 9, 1932, a daughter of the late Harry W. and Mabel (Griswold) French, II.
Grace was raised in Salisbury and attended Amesbury High School. She left school to start her family and settled in Salisbury with her first husband, the late Henry F. Jackman, Sr. After Henry’s death, Grace met and married Edward C. Lake, Jr. and relocated to Seabrook 1n 1989. Her very large family kept her busy and she cherished every moment with them. Caring for family was Grace’s forte; she was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Grace was a great cook, loved playing cards and enjoyed rides to the mountains. She especially enjoyed her trip to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, a place she had always wanted to visit. She is survived by Ed, her loving husband of 40 years, her sons, Henry F. Jackman, Jr., of Rochester and David A. Jackman and his wife, Alice of Seabrook; her daughters, Janice Carter of Rochester, Kathy J. Jackman and her companion, Robert Canning of Seabrook, Sandra M. Gove and her husband, Erik of Salisbury and Cheryl L. Gill and her husband, Rajesh of El Paso, Texas. She also leaves her brother, Paul French of Bangor, Maine; her sister, Ruth French and her companion, Connie Torrisi of Methuen, and her 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, two great, great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and first husband, Henry, Grace was predeceased by her son, Kenneth M. Jackman, her daughter, Shirley A. Gouldreault, her brother, Linwood French and two grandchildren, Robert Paul Jackman and Monica Jo Gove.
Visiting hours will be from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 8, 2017 in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home – Crematory, 811 Lafayette Rd., Hampton. Services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Long Hill Cemetery, Salisbury. If desired, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
