George N.'s Story
George N. Foster passed away on September 13, 2016. He was born and raised in Newburyport, Mass. to the late George N. Foster, Jr. and the late Helen Landford Foster.
George is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Joyce, and their three children and spouses, Jeff and Lisa of Danville, Pa., Karen and Craig Hart of Salorsburg, Pa. and John and Beth of Pompton Plains, N.J. He is also survived by his sister, Fay Kimball of Chambersburg, Pa., eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
George was a 1956 graduate of Newburyport High School, a graduate of University of New Hampshire and he received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Virginia Tech. George was employed by Union Carbide in Bound Brook, N.J. for his 37-year career in the polymer science field, receiving numerous patents and teaching engagements for his work. George and Joyce retired in 1999 and moved to the eastern shore of Virginia where they continued to operate the Mason Beach Fruit Farm.
George was a lifelong member of the American Chemical Society, NRA and actively supported youth outdoor education and sports, the Boy Scouts, Accomack County 4H Shooting Education Club, and the NOAAWIVA Sportsman Club. He was an avid recreational fisherman and hunter, member of the Powelton Presbyterian Church, and everyone's "Grand-pop." He will be greatly missed by family, friends, neighbors and their dog, Maggie.
A "celebration of life" memorial service will be scheduled for mid-November at the Powelton Presbyterian Church in Wachapreague, Va.
