Fred A.'s Story
Fred A. Powell, 85, of Danvers, passed away February 23, 2017. He was the loving husband of Marie (Voke) Powell.
Fred was born in Ironton, Wisconsin on Feb. 20, 1932, and later graduated from the University of Wisconsin. Fred joined the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. He met Marie, formerly of Chelsea, at a Boston YMCA dance while his ship was in dry dock. They married in 1954 and were married over 62 years. They were always together and deeply in love. Fred worked in retail as a buyer with Jordan Marsh and Conrad & Chandler. He later worked with the Comm. of Mass. in the Employment Division. Fred enjoyed walking, usually four miles a day, traveling and politics. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Parish in Danvers.
Besides Marie, Fred leaves a son, James C. Powell and his wife, Pamela of Amesbury; four grandchildren, Ryan M. Powell of Amesbury, Liam J. Powell of New York City, Patrick B. Powell of Amesbury and Colin Thomas Powell of Boston. Fred had three siblings, Mary Hash and Daniel Powell, both of Arizona and Curt Powell of Wisconsin. He also leaves numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, 11 a.m. in St. Mary of the Annunciation Parish, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Visitation is private. Burial at Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers.
