Frances Ellen (Foley)'s Story
Frances Ellen (Foley) Donahue died on December 27, 2016. She was born on May 20, 1927, to the late Ellen Pearson Foley Boutin and Francis Foley.
Frances graduated from Amesbury High School in 1945 and attended Boston University. While working as a bookkeeper for Bolles Motors in Newburyport, she met her future husband of 64 years, Francis Daniel “Buster” Donahue, who died in 2014.
Frances was a masterful homemaker and an endlessly generous mother. Her house and pool were always sparkling and her children and grandchildren enjoyed years of handmade Halloween costumes, knit sweaters, blankets, Christmas stockings and her famous desserts. She loved reading, gardening, her two Yorkshire terriers, Alvin and Teddy and traveling with her husband. She passed down a love of reading and countless favorite family recipes to her children.
Frances contributed many years of faithful community service at the Anna Jaques Hospital coffee shop and as a member of the Board of Directors of the YWCA and the Howard Benevolent Society.
She is survived by a son, James Donahue; and three daughters, Jane Kelleher (John), Christine Cullen (Marc) and Joanne Ten Eyck (David Ten Eyck); twelve grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Predeceasing Frances were her sisters, Paula Boutin O’Neil and Barbara Ann Boutin; as well as many close friends.
Her family offers thanks to Frances’ devoted caregiver, Pretrea Cressey, for her loyal service and endless kindness.
A celebration of Frances’ life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that memorial contributions be made in her name to the Howard Benevolent Society, P.O. Box 9, Newburyport, MA 01950.
