Evelyn R. (Hulme)'s Story

Evelyn R. (Hulme) Mahoney, 86 of Plum Island, Newbury, Mass., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, surrounded by her loved ones. She was the wife of the late Francis “Mr. Moe” Mahoney. Born in Melrose on February 16, 1930, she was the daughter of the late William and Grace T. (O’Brien) Hulme, growing up and attending schools in Medford, Mass.
The Mahoney’s, locally known as Mr. & Mrs. Moe, bought a summer home on Plum Island, moving to the island full time in 1975. In 1978 they purchased Guilford’s Package Store, which became known as Mr. Moe’s Package Store. Along with their children, the family operated Mr. Moe’s for 37 years, selling it on December 11, 2015.
Mrs. Mahoney is survived by her two daughters, Kathleen Mahoney of Georgetown and Cheryl Mahoney and Rick Mellow; three sons, Patrick and Jean Mahoney, Daniel Mahoney, all of Plum Island, and Mark Mahoney of Groveland; two grandchildren, Kerri and Michael Tolman of Newbury and Kevin Mahoney of Plum Island; sister in-law, Mildred McCreedy of Medford; brother in-law, William Brady of Tewksbury; and many nieces and nephews that she loved and cherished as if they were her own children. She was predeceased by her siblings, Margaret (Peg) Decina, Grace DeMuzio, Walter Hulme, and William Hulme.
Family and friends may call on Sunday, October 16, 2016, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home, 193 High St., Newburyport, MA 01950. Parking available behind the funeral home. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 17, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Church, followed by burial at Oakhill Cemetery, both in Newburyport.
