Ellen Laurie's Story
Ellen Laurie Becker, age 67, of Newburyport, died November 16, 2016, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of 43 years of Bruce Skud.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., January 25, 1949, she was the daughter of Sara Esther (Sandler) Becker and the late Nathaniel Harold Becker. She received her Doctorate in Psychology from the University of Illinois. Her life focused on being a dedicated psychologist, having run her own practice in the Portsmouth area for many years. She was an avid traveler filled with stories of the places she and her husband visited.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her mother Sara, three brothers, Paul Becker and wife, Nancy of Ypsilanti, Mich., David Becker and wife Maryann of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Scott Becker and wife, Sandy of Brookeville, Md.; a sister, Rena Becker and husband Bennett of Pittsburgh; six nieces and nephews, Natalie, Nathaniel, Alexa, Andrew, Jordan and Jeremy, two God-daughters, Rachael and Tova Kaplan, along with many dear friends.
Services will be private for the family. Donations in her memory can be made to the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center, 2 Harris Street, Newburyport, MA 01950. Arrangements are by Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers.
