Elizabeth's Story

Text size

Elizabeth R. (Galler) LeSavoy, 57, of Merrimac passed away at home surrounded by her family after a long and heroic battle with breast cancer.
Liz was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Larry and Arlene Galler. She attended the University of Maryland initially as a dance major. Her eventual degree in information technology propelled Liz toward a career in computer programming and business systems management.
Somehow, she managed to achieve a balance between family and career working at Malden Mills while bringing two beautiful girls into the world. After many years working part time and raising her children she relaunched her full time career, rising to the director level at Wyeth Biopharma.
After her retirement in 2010, Liz dedicated her life to volunteer work. She taught English as a second language, tutored third graders in reading, helped out at the Merrimac Public Library and became a sought after SCORE counselor in the Portsmouth, N.H. office.
In her spare time, she became a children’s book author and an active member of literary critique groups. She loved to write and worked endlessly at getting published.
Liz leaves behind her husband, Richard; daughter, Erin and son-in-law, Timothy DeThorne of Silver Spring, Md.; her daughter, Kara, son-in-law, Joseph and grandson, Harry Pally of Brooklyn, N.Y.; her sister, Glenda Gomprecht of Lodi, N.Y.; and her mother, Arlene Galler of Boynton Beach, Fla.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service today, Monday, Oct. 10, at 1 p.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. Interment will follow in the Children of Israel Cemetery, Haverhill. Shiva will be held at her home, Monday, following the interment, until 4 p.m. Tuesday.
