Dennis J.'s Story

Dennis J. DiGregorio, 64, died Friday, November 11, 2016, in the Brigham and Woman’s Hospital, Boston following a year long battle with cancer.
Born in Boston, January 25, 1952, son of the late John and Mary A. (Italiano) DiGregorio, he was raised in Ipswich, later living in Melrose for several years, and most recently on Pond Street in Essex.
Dennis was a self employed seafood broker, owner of Juncker Associates of Gloucester. He also worked as an actor for the Gloucester Stage Company. In the 1980s he had been featured in a number of productions including, Tracers, Road, and Israel Horovitz’s, Henry Lumper. He enjoyed flying kites of all types and went to Africa to compete in the “Transat des Sables,” a land yacht race across the Western Sahara. During the Viet Nam War he served with the U.S. Army.
Dennis loved his family and friends and pets. He was an outstanding son, father, brother, uncle and friend. He was there for everyone, generous, compassionate and selfless, putting everyone else’s needs before his own.
He is survived by three children, a son, Keegan of Ipswich; two daughters, Marisa of Essex and Alexis of New York City; and his former wife, Betsy DiGregorio of Beverly. He is also survived by a stepson, Creed Carroll of Seabrook; a sister, Diane Smith and her husband, Allen of Melrose; his only niece, Kimberly Smith McCue and her husband, Michael of Melrose; three great-nieces, Ashley, Jules and Jillian McCue and a great-nephew, Michael McCue, all of Melrose; and his pets, Maggie and Boots, who will be lovingly cared for by his family.
A Funeral Mass of will be celebrated 10 a.m., Thursday, November 17, 2016, in Our Lady of Hope Church, Pineswamp Rd., Ipswich, followed by interment in the New Highland Cemetery, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, 4 to 8 p.m. in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High St., Ipswich.
