David Turner Martin, born August 8, 1940, and raised in Newburyport, the son of the late Carroll Turner and Beulah Stevens Martin, passed peacefully Thursday morning, October 20, 2016 at Sea View Retreat in Rowley at the age of 76.
David leaves behind his brothers, Winthrop Martin and his wife Jean, Terry Martin and his wife, Diane. He will be missed by the family he loved; his nieces, Sherry Jackman and Wendy Kostandin and nephews, Craig Martin and Steve Martin and their families, and his many cousins and friends who were so loyal and supportive of him. He was forever grateful for the many uplifting cards from his special friend Nancy. Everyone he met was his friend and he loved the ones he made at Sea View, his neighbors and the staff that gave him such great care.
David worked many years at Towle Silversmiths with his Dad and Uncles and his grandfather, Lauren Stevens before them. He loved telling stories with such great detail as if they had just occurred. He cherished summers at the family cottage he helped build at Sandy Point and before that family vacations at Camp Jenny on Lake Winnipesaukee. He loved singing in the choir, and playing organ music at all the family get-togethers. He enjoyed the friends he made volunteering with the Civil Defense and Yankee Homecoming. He loved riding his battery operated chair just down the road to spend time with the guys at the remote controlled airfield. Unknown to us at the time he also was voyaging several miles across town to visit Vinnie and Josh.
Private services will be held by the immediate family. There will be no calling hours and family requests that in Lieu of flowers, donations may be made To “The Children’s Fund” at Higher Ground Baptist Church, 100 Old Turnpike Rd., Nottingham, NH 03290.
