David Bruce's Story
David B. Foster, 80, a resident of Amesbury, died Monday, February 13, 2017, at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, Mass. He was born in Gloucester on November 22, 1936, to the late Louis and Dorothy (Davis) Foster. David was a graduate of Newburyport High School, Class of 1955. Following his graduation, David enlisted in the U. S. Army and served our country proudly. He reached the rank of sergeant before his honorable discharge in 1960.
David married the light of his life, the late Carol (Jones) Foster, who passed away on July 31, 2014, after 56 years of marriage.
David was employed as an Advertising Manager for the Newburyport Daily News for many years before going to work as a union laborer for Local 175. After retiring from construction, David and Carol traveled extensively in the Caribbean. They also owned and operated a successful antique business. He was actively involved in a variety of local organizations including the Newburyport Jaycees, the Newburyport DeMolay and the Newburyport Eco Development Commission.
After a period of declining health, David moved to Merrimack Valley Health Center in Amesbury. There, he led the Resident Council for many years. He met many supportive and loving friends who enriched his life enormously, especially Jackie, and his favorite nurse, Jay. David also became very involved with the Market Street Baptist Church where he became a Deacon.
David is survived by his daughters, Heidi Foster of Candia, N.H., Holly Shay and her husband, Richard Scuzzarella of Newburyport, and Dawn Palmer of Newburyport. In addition, he is also survived by his grandson, Ricky Palmer of Seabrook, N.H.; brother-in-law, Terry Jones of Jupiter, Florida. In addition to his wife, David was predeceased by his grandson, SGT. Jordan M. Shay.
At the request of David’s family, funeral services and burial will be private. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home, 193 High St., Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Mr. Foster’s family with his funeral arrangements.
