Constance (Clark)'s Story
Constance (Clark) Ryan, 91, longtime Amesbury resident, passed peacefully Friday afternoon, December 23, 2016, at Merrimack Valley Health Center in Amesbury surrounded by the family she loved so dearly.
One of two daughters of the late Frederick L. and Agnes (Ferrick) Clark, she was a graduate of Newburyport High School, Class of 1943 and graduated from St. Elizabeth’s Hospital School of Nursing in Boston in 1946. Connie started her career as a registered nurse at the Amesbury Hospital, continuing in 1947 at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport where she worked in the Emergency Department, until her retirement in 1984. During retirement, she continued her nursing work as a substitute school nurse in the greater Amesbury area. She also was an active volunteer working with Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley, making frequent trips to Northern Essex Community College.
Connie spent many memorable years as a member of the Hospital Nurses’ Club and the Fire Department Auxiliary. Connie was proud of the Amesbury Public Library for its quality programs and extensive selection of reading material, which she took full advantage of during her weekly visits. Connie most enjoyed her travels throughout the world with Bill.
She leaves behind her devoted husband of 69 years, William E. Ryan; five children, Ann Ryan of Deerfield, N.H.; Sally Ryan of Newbury; Margaret A. Ryan of Salisbury; John F. Ryan and wife, Mary-Corinne Lyons of Newbury; Mary Elizabeth Norman and husband, Ernest of Stuart, Fla.; two grandsons, 1st Lt. Christopher Beau Ryan, USMC; and Shane Ryan; along with several nieces, nephews, extended family members and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Agnes J. Oricchio in 2002.
The family extends its most sincere appreciation to all of the caregivers and staff at the Merrimack Valley Health Center in Amesbury for providing thoughtful and compassionate care for Connie these past several years.
A Memorial Mass presided by Father Stephen Rock will be held at the St. Joseph Church of the Holy Family Parish, 2 School Street, Amesbury on Friday, December 30, 2016, at 11 a.m. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Amesbury will be private for the family. Donations in her memory may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Holy Family Parish, 11 Sparhawk Street, Amesbury, MA 01913. Arrangements are by Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury.
