Charles Oren "Chuck"'s Story
Charles O. “Chuck” Swarms, 84, of Merrimac, Massachusetts passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2016. Born in Wheatland, Illinois to Maroy and Lula (Brown) Swarms, he lived most of his life in Massachusetts.
Chuck served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1960, the last four years in the reserves. He served when in active duty on the U.S.S. Staten Island as a diesel mechanic, which led to his career as a diesel mechanic. He eventually opened his own shop in Winchester, Massachusetts, ETA, where he repaired heavy equipment and diesel engines. He closed the business after many years and then worked with A. C. Cirone & Sons, Inc., until his retirement in 2008. After retiring he became an avid woodworker creating and designed many beautiful pieces.
Chuck was a loving husband and is survived by his wife of 29 years, Linda Marie (LaPointe) Swarms. He was also a loving and proud father of nine children from his first marriage to Joan (Rose) Swarms, Jody O’Hare and husband, Paul of Medford; Michael and wife, Becky of Indianapolis, Ind.; Paul of Concord, N.H.; Nancy Henderson and husband, Matthew of Texas City, Texas; Christine Ishkanian and husband, Stephen of Hubbardston; David and his partner, Jacque Bruntz of Cambridge; Edward of Somerville; Teague Parker and husband, Dennis Wilson of Witt, Ill.; and Daniel and wife, Tricia of Somerville. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 5, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 36 West Main Street, Merrimac, MA 01860. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
