Catherine M. “Kay” (Sanders) Batterton, 86, of Byfield, formerly of Amesbury, passed Friday evening, August 25, 2017, at Anna Jaques Hospital, in the loving presence of her devoted family.
Born in Somerville, January 22, 1931, she was one of four children of the late Henry and Margaret (Hennessey) Sanders and had attended schools in Somerville.
A resident of Byfield in recent years, she had also lived in Amesbury, where she raised her family with her dedicated husband of 62 years, Edwin N. Batterton, who passed on February 27, 2011.
Kay loved being a mother and embraced all the challenges that went with it. She possessed a magnetic personality and a true passion for life, which immediately endeared her to everyone she met. Kay was also an avid fan of all Boston sports teams.
Her life’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all those who were a part of her life, especially her family; children, Daniel Batterton and wife, Patricia of Byfield, with whom she made her residence, William Batterton and wife, Kathy of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Edwin Batterton of Wareham and Marlene Bolduc and husband, Roger of Henderson, Nev.; her most precious 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and the one great-great-grandchild that is on its way; along with generations of nieces and nephews, extended family members and the many friends at the Amesbury Council on Aging. In addition to her husband, “Ed” and her parents, she was also predeceased by her brother, William Sanders and her two sisters, Mary Chiaraluce and Margaret Cruickshank.
A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church of the Holy Family Parish, 2 School Street, Amesbury, followed by burial in Union Cemetery, Amesbury. Donations in her memory may be made to Amesbury Council on Aging Senior Center, 68 Elm Street, Amesbury, MA 01913. Arrangements are by Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury.
