Catherine A. (Ivone) Higgins's Story
Catherine A. (Ivone) Higgins Filmore, age 94, passed peacefully at her home in Byfield on Tuesday evening, February 7, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of the late Ronald M. Filmore, who died in 2012 and the late Joseph F. Higgins, who died in 1984.
Born in East Boston, October 10, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Concetta (Cozzo) Ivone and was a graduate of Boston's Girls High School, Class of 1940.
For many years Catherine enjoyed being a switchboard operator at the former Towle Manufacturing in Newburyport.
Those left behind to cherish the wonderful memories of her life are her children, Kathleen Higgins, Susan Mitchell and husband, David, Charlene Foley and husband, David and Joseph Higgins and wife, Maureen; her son-in-law, Robert Janvrin; her nine grandchildren, Robbie and Jamie Janvrin, Daniel, John and Melissa Castine, Sally Winchel, Jenn and Ashley Foley and Patrick Higgins and wife, Spencer; her twelve great-grandchildren, Joshua, Noah, Hunter, Austin, Cody, Ayden, Lucas, Lexus, Caitlin, Savannah, Riley and Tessa; her sister, Marie Brown; her sister-in-law, Loretta Ivone; several generations of nieces and nephews, and many dear friends, including her loving caregiver, Nina Uwabaye. In addition to her parents and her two husbands, she was predeceased by her daughter, Carol Janvrin and two brothers, Nicholas and Frank Ivone.
Catherine also leaves behind her step-children and their families, who have been like her own family, Jeff Filmore and wife, Leslie and Craig Filmore and wife, Lauren; three step-grandchildren, Ben Filmore and wife, Renee, Kerrie Festo and husband, Damon and Mollie Filmore and husband, Steve Latham; and four step-great-grandchildren, Abigail and Olivia Filmore and Nina and Nolan Festo.
Private services were held at St. Mary’s Church in Rowley followed by burial in the South Byfield Cemetery in Georgetown, where she was eternally reunited with her fist husband, Joseph.
