Brenda Jean (Ferris)'s Story
Brenda Jean (Ferris) Locke, age 73, former longtime Newburyport resident, passed peacefully at the Clipper Harbor Nursing Home in Portsmouth, N.H., early Thursday morning, August 18, 2016, with her loving family by her side.
Born in Newburyport on September 28, 1942, she was one of four children of the late Emery and Thelma (Caswell) Ferris and was a graduate of Newburyport High School.
Brenda and her husband, the late John E. Locke who passed in 2005, had five loving children. Proud to be a stay-at-home Mom, Brenda was the ultimate mother. She was always ready to take care of whatever needed to be done. Her home was filled with warmth and love and was a a welcomed place for the family and all their friends, the more the merrier. She also opened her home for child care, did housekeeping for others, and worked in local factories for extra spending money. Some of her favorite hobbies were doing puzzles, oil painting, dancing, music, and gardening, especially fond of all the beautiful butterflies her garden attracted.
She is survived by her children, Holly Gagne and companion, Ted Foustoukos of Salisbury; John Locke, Jr. and wife, Penny of Fremont, N.H.; Robert Locke of Fremont, N.H.; and Kevin Locke and companion, Caren Damocogno of Berlin, N.H.; six grandchildren, Jason, Stephanie, Keith, Jonathan, Jadon and Courtney; six great-grandchildren, Tyshawn, Alexis, Jason, Jr., Chase, Jeffrey and Vincent; a sister, Carol McPhee and husband, David of Newbury; along with several generations of nieces and nephews, extended family members and longtime friends. She was predeceased by a daughter, Diane Locke; a sister, June Wilson; and a brother, Bobby Ferris.
Visiting hours at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport will be Tuesday, August 23, 2016, from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services at the funeral home will be Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at 11 a.m., followed by burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Newburyport.
