Arthur William's Story
Arthur William Woods, age 85, of Plum Island, Newburyport, died March 4, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Mills) Woods for 64 years.
Born in Haverhill on May 16, 1931, he was the son of the late Arthur William Woods and Myrtle (Evans) Woods England and was a graduate of Haverhill Trade School.
He was a proud veteran of the Korean War, having served with the United States Army from March 4, 1953 to March 3, 1955.
Arthur, the grandson of the Plum Island lighthouse keeper, was on the water boating and fishing since his childhood. He also had a passion for clock making, crafting model boats, and operating his Ham radio. He was a member of St. John’s Lodge of Newburyport and the Plum Island Lighthouse Association.
Arthur was a lifelong mechanic, a profession he truly loved. He worked at the former Fenn Motors until they closed their doors, then spent many years with Insero Motors and finished his career at Walters Buick.
In addition to his beloved wife, Barbara, he is survived by two daughters, Susan Boccuzzo of Plum Island, Newbury, and Cynthia Lanoie and husband, Gary of Tewksbury; four grandchildren, Tiffany Boccuzzo-Terrazzano of Florida, Jennifer Bogard and husband, Rob of York, Maine, Corey Lusher and wife, Brenda of Bolton, and Holly Mushaty and husband, David of North Andover; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Neal Boccuzzo, who died in 2009 and his step-father, Edwin E. England.
The memories he shared with them all will forever warm their hearts and keep him ever present in their lives.
Funeral services and burial in Oak Hill Cemetery will be private. By request of the family, there will be no visiting hours. Donations in his memory may be made to The Community Pantry of the First Parish Church of Newbury, 20 High Road, Newbury or to the charity of one’s choice.
