William "Bill"'s Story
William “Bill” Kacher, age 84, of Newburyport, passed away at his home after a period of declining health, surrounded by family who loved him dearly.
Born in Haverhill on August 14, 1932, he was the only son of the late John and Athena (Georges) Kacherumbas. He was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Brewster Academy, University of Vermont and Suffolk University in Boston, where he received his MBA. He also earned a certificate at MIT in Cambridge, of which he was extremely proud.
Bill served in the U.S. Army in Washington, D.C., and Germany, and later worked for several years at Raytheon. He spent most of his professional life with Avco-Textron as an administrative director, finishing his career with the Massachusetts DEP.
Bill loved antiquing, travel, sunny days and all Boston sports team, particularly the Red Sox. Above all, he cherished time with his family, whom he loved fiercely.
His life’s legacy is cherished by his devoted wife of 29 years, Andrea Jones; his four daughters, Angela Ackroyd, Susan Boudreau and her husband, George, Eleni Kacher, and Georgia Kacher, all of Newburyport; his three grandsons, Billy Boudreau, Patrick Boudreau and Cuyler Ackroyd, along with many dear friends. He was predeceased by his daughter, Ingrid McSweeney of Fairbanks, Alaska and his son-in-law, Randy Ackroyd of Newburyport.
Visiting hours at the Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport will be Saturday, March 18, from 1 to 3 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 7 Harris Street, Newburyport, also on Saturday, March 18, at 4 p.m. Private burial will be in Belleville Cemetery, Newburyport. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Basil’s Ministries of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 7 Harris Street, Newburyport, MA 01950.
