Walter F.'s Story
Walter F. Raleigh passed away at his home in Seabrook, N.H., on July 28, 2017.
Born in Rutland, Vt., on Sept. 12, 1946, his family moved to Newburyport in 1956 where he graduated from Immaculate Conception Grammar School and attended Newburyport High School.
After leaving high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and served from Jan. 29, 1964, to Sept. 11, 1967. He received his Merchant Seaman papers in early 1968 and began a 15-year career as an engine room crewman, traveling to various ports throughout the world. The last nine-and-a-half years of his working life was driving truck for New England Parts Warehouse in Seabrook, N.H.
Walter was predeceased by his parents, John P. and Aloyse K. Raleigh; a sister, Martha; a brother, Terrance; and a son, James M. He leaves his brother, John P. Raleigh, Jr.; his former wife, Sara; two children, Jayne and Walter F. Jr.; five grandchildren, Patricia, Joshua, Alexandra MacDonald, Elizabeth Raleigh, and Briana Parker; four great-grandchildren, Justin, Giselle, Ezrey, and Raina.
His funeral service will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, Newburyport at 10 a.m. on August 12, with interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
