Virginia H.'s Story
Virginia H. Dow, 89, of Newburyport, died peacefully on Monday, April 24, 2017, at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport.
She was born in Gloucester, Mass., on July 12, 1927, the daughter of the late Robert E. Stack, Sr. and Gertrude M. (Pike) Stack.
A lifelong resident of Newburyport, she graduated from Newburyport High School with the Class of 1946. Following graduation she worked a number of years as a legal secretary for attorney Norman Espovich, where she met her future husband of 39 years, the late Frank H. Dow, who died in 1991.
After dedicating her life to raising her family, Virginia went back to school and became a licensed practical nurse, graduating third in her class. She went on to work at Anna Jaques Hospital and later Country Center for Health & Rehabilitation, retiring in 1992 at the age of 72.
Surviving family members include her two daughters, Cheryl Dow Armstrong of Warwick, R.I., Susan Dow Bahatouris and her husband, John of Hampton and a granddaughter, Shannon Bahatouris of Hampton.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Robert E. Stack, Jr.
Visiting hours will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2017, at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Services will immediately follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will take place at Long Hill Cemetery in Salisbury. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
