Tasha (Malis)'s Story

Longtime North Shore resident Tasha Davidson died unexpectedly on December 1, 2016.

Tasha was born in Lawrence, Mass., in 1949, the second of five children born to Henry and Alice Malis, also of Lawrence. She graduated from Lawrence High School, Class of 1967. She received a Bachelor of Arts from Hofstra University and a Master of Arts in early childhood education from University of Oregon. She also received a Doctorate in creative writing from Goddard College.

Tasha was a Resource Specialist for the Education Development Center, Newton, MA and co-authored a health and wellness manual that was funded by Johnson & Johnson and nationally distributed in the 1990s. She was the Executive Director of Child Care Careers Institute through 2004, focusing on the creation of alternative career and degree pathways for teachers in the early childhood field. Tasha was an adjunct professor of early childhood education for Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill, Mass. She finished her career in early childhood education as the Director for Center Based Programs at Horizons for Homeless Children in Roxbury, Mass. Since 2012, she and her husband, Brian Dower have owned and operated a Fish Window Cleaning franchise based in Amesbury, Mass., servicing the North Shore and New Hampshire seacoast areas.

Tasha was a writer, artist, published poet, accomplished cook, gardener, soap maker and passionate longtime advocate for early childhood education and low income families. She deeply loved her family, Plum Island, reading and intellectual salon discussions with friends and family.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Brian Dower of Newburyport, Mass.; her sons, Benjamin Davidson, wife, Heather and granddaughter, Zoe of Pawtucket, R.I. and Ian Dower and his fiancé, Maria Eugenia Mayobre of Watertown; brothers, John Malis and wife, Lindamae Lucas of Newburyport; Dan Malis and wife, Carolyn of Cambridge; Rick Malis and wife, Janet of Westport; sister, Joanne and Richard Kassnove of East Meadow, N.Y.; sisters in-law, Kate Prescott and Maryanne Dower of Newburyport; brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Cathy Dower of Amesbury; and brother in-law, Rock Dower and Jill Godin of Groveland.

She enjoyed her time with her numerous nieces and nephews, Amanda Prescott, Ana Prescott, Emily and James Burrows, Jesse Hunnefeld, Ryan Dower, Mindy Dower, Kaitlyn Dower, Greg and Nicole Dower, Kristy and Darrick Stevens, Jesse and Anya Malis, Michael and Christopher Oliveri, Mathew, Peter and Jessica Kassanove.
A “Celebration of Life” and visiting hours will be held at PITA Hall, 8 Plum Island Turnpike, Newburyport from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 11, 2016.
