Shirley A. (Murphy)'s Story
Shirley A. (Murphy) Fowler, age 91, lifelong resident of Newburyport, passed peacefully at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill on Saturday evening, November 12, 2016. She was the beloved wife of the late Harold H. Fowler, who died in 1987.
One of three children of the late Joseph A. and Mary (Fowler) Murphy, Shirley was born in Newburyport on October 5, 1925, and attended Newburyport High School.
She had worked at CBS Hytron in Newburyport, Standard Garment and also at Brigham Manor Nursing Home over 20 years.
An avid reader and seasoned yard sale enthusiast from near and far, her greatest joy in life came from spending time with her family.
She leaves behind her four sons, Harold H. Fowler, Jr. of Newburyport; David Fowler and wife, Gwendolyn of Pahrump, Nev.; Glenn Fowler and wife, Kathy of Newburyport; and Mark Fowler and wife, Barbara of Salem, NH; her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Joyce Ouellet of Amesbury; along with several generations of nieces and nephews and extended family members. She was predeceased by her brother, J. Austin Murphy, Jr. She was loved by them all.
Shirley’s family extends their heartfelt appreciation for the exceptional care she received at the Hospice House. It brought them such comfort to know that she passed from this life to the next with such peaceful tranquility.
At her request, all services are private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Merrimac Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack Street, Lawrence, MA 01843. Arrangements are by Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport.
