Sanford Carroll's Story

Sanford Carroll Aubin, 70, of Delaplane, Va., passed away on November 6, 2017.
Sandy was born on May 21, 1947, in Boston and grew up in Marion, Mass. He spent his childhood on the waters of Buzzards Bay and developed a lifelong passion for sailing. A graduate of Tabor Academy, Sandy attended the Massachusetts Maritime Academy before joining the Navy where he was stationed in the Philippines. After returning Stateside, Sandy spent his 20s in Boston working for Pan American Airlines and later moved to Newburyport where he worked for CEI as a computer programmer. It was in Newburyport that he reconnected with and married his high school sweetheart, Dana Mooney.
As a student of life who studied anything and everything, Sandy had a deep appreciation for all things that challenged the mind. His interests were wide-ranging, and covered diverse subjects such as computer programing, music and writing, aviation and genealogy. He was a licensed pilot as well as an accomplished tennis and guitar player. A strong command of the English language, along with his sharp intellect, made Sandy a formidable debater, ever-ready to engage willing participants in elevated discussion.
His generosity was endless. Sandy's ability to articulate, and his dedication, lead him to serve on many boards including serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors for Fauquier County for some years. Family and friends always came first for him. He loved birds, photography, corny jokes, and single malt scotch. He made us all smile so much.
Sandy is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Jacob Hall; two stepsons, Lorenzo Ansuini and wife, Raffaela Vartuli, and Nicola Ansuini and wife, Jessica Ansuini; his sister, Susan Aubin; his sister-in-law, Martha Aubin; his niece, Meara Aubin; five grandchildren, Levi Hall, Sophia Hall, Giovanni Ansuini, Giulia Ansuini, and Maia Ansuini; and his loving partner, Roxanne Watts.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dana Aubin; his brother, Stephen Aubin; and his parents, Elizabeth and Ralph Aubin.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 13, at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Delaplane, Va. The family will receive friends in the Parish Hall, directly following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Sanford C. Aubin to the PBS Foundation.
