Roland Joseph's Story
Roland Joseph Guilmette, 93, longtime resident of Amesbury, died early Sunday morning, August 13, 2017, at the Prescott House in North Andover, surrounded by his loving family.
One of six children of the late Alexis and Leah M. (Mercier) Guilmette, he was born in Lawrence on December 31, 1923.
In 1942, he enlisted in the Navy and proudly served as a Seabee until his honorable discharge in 1945.
As a skilled welder and metal fabricator, Roland worked at Oakland Industries until his retirement in 1988. Although retired, he never stopped working. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage, fixing small engines and lawn mowers, and was always inventing things with his creative welding skills.
He was a loving husband, dedicated father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, caring brother and uncle, and good friend to many. It was his love and devotion to family, along with his kindness, generosity and lifelong willingness to help, that will always be remembered.
Predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Mary E. Guilmette; and three of his sisters, Aline M. Dandurant (2010), Madeleine M. Bunnell (2016) and Helen Gaudette (2016); he leaves behind his seven children, Russell J. Guilmette and wife, Julie of South Hampton, N.H., Dennis J. Guilmette and wife, Lisa of Salisbury, Roland J.
