Roberta's Story

Text size

Roberta M. (Tremblay) Trussell passed away peacefully on October 3, 2017, at home after an extended battle fighting the effects of cancer and Alzheimer’s. Her life story is truly a love story and true love stories never die.
She was born in Hartford, Conn., the daughter of Noah A. and Ethel M. (Thomas) Tremblay. She moved to Revere, Mass., when her father was assigned to the Boston Navy Yard in the 1940s and to Hamilton, Mass., in the 1950s when he was assigned to the Portsmouth Navy Yard.
It was in Hamilton when she was in the eighth grade that the love story began. She met a sophomore by the name of Philip Trussell who was to become her life partner. It was on the school bus that the story started. She got on first and saved the seat next to her for him to join her every school day. That simple beginning blossomed into 65 years of love, devotion and loyalty. They were married on August 23, 1958, making this their 59th wedding anniversary.
Roberta and Philip have three daughters and a son. The daughters are Jennifer Trussell of Jeffersonville, Vt., Jamie Trussell of Newbury, Mass., Jessica Sullivan of Lexington, Va.; and a son, Philip Trussell of Jeffersonville, Vt. There are two grandchildren, Olivia Valley of Newbury, Mass., and Noah Sullivan of Lexington, Va. There are two sons-in-law, Jeffrey Valley (deceased) and Jay Sullivan of Lexington, Va. Roberta also has two siblings, Noah Tremblay of Stratham, N.H., and Karen Anderson of Dade City, Fla.
Roberta and Philip’s homes have been primarily in two locations -- High Road, Newbury, Mass., where they lived for 28 years, and in the community of Eastman, Grantham N.H., for the last 21 years. Her primary interests have been her family, her home, and her friends. After that it was golf, cross country skiing, dogs, swimming, traveling and having fun. She never let Philip forget that she won four club championships at Ould Newbury Golf Club to his three. As a wife, a mother, a friend, no one could ask for more. Through their interest in golf and business, they were able to travel to some beautiful venues not only in this country but Hawaii, Caribbean Islands, Ireland and Scotland.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Gould Road, New London, N.H. A graveside service will be held that same day at 3 p.m. in Hamilton Cemetery, Bay Road, Hamilton. Friends are invited to share fellowship and refreshments with the family following the graveside service at VASA Restaurant, 175 Bridge Road, Salisbury, MA 01952, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lake Sunapee Region Visiting Nurse Association, P.O. Box 2209, New London, NH 03257; or to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health (write "Norris Cotton Cancer Center" in the memo line), One Medical Center Drive, HB 7070, Lebanon, NH 03756.
