Text size

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the death of Roberta A. (Gonthier) Ananian, 73, longtime resident of Byfield, who passed peacefully Wednesday morning, September 21, 2016, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. She passed away after a seven year battle with Parkinson's with Lewy Body Disease which slowly crippled her mind and body but not the strength of her spirit.
One of eight children of the late Robert and Annette (LaRochelle) Gonthier, she was born in Amesbury on January 24, 1943 and was a graduate of the Immaculate Conception High School. She went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree at Rivier College and then obtained her Masters in Media from Fitchburg State University, which led to a lifetime passion of teaching at the Amesbury Elementary School, retiring in 2001.
In addition to teaching, Roberta's passions led to her expression of her many talents as a baker, sewer, carpenter, jeweler, shopper, artist, chef, crafter, quilter, naturalist and butterfly enthusiast. Although Roberta achieved tremendous success in her many roles, her greatest gift was her love which she leaves behind in the hearts of her loving husband, Richard Ananian; her three children, Alexander Ananian, Laura Ananian and Nicole Ananian; her daughter-in-law, Susan Ananian; her beautiful grandchildren, Gavin Ananian, Alexandra Ananian, Ava Ananian, Ella Ananian-Randall, Lilah Ananian-Randall and Natalia Ananian-Alonzo; and her devoted siblings, Robert and Diane Gonthier, Ronald Gonthier, Richard "Claude" and Nancy Gonthier, Laurie and Carol Gonthier, Annette Gonthier-Kiely, and Denyse (Gonthier) and Joseph Richter, in addition to being a special Aunt to numerous nieces and nephews, and dear friend to many. She was predeceased by her youngest brother, Denys Gonthier; brother-in-law Stephen Kiely, and sister-in-law, Susan Gonthier.
Visiting hours at the Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport, will be Monday, September 26, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. A memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 42 Green Street, Newburyport, followed by burial at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newburyport.
