Rita M. (Ratte)'s Story
Rita M. (Ratte) Lewis, 82, formerly of Salisbury, Mass., died after a brief illness Wednesday afternoon at Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood, N.H. She was the widow of John S. Lewis.
Rita was born in Haverhill on January 18, 1935 the daughter of the late George and Lillian (Dodier) Ratte.
She was a member of the Amesbury High School class of 1954. Rita spent the majority of her life living in Salisbury and working in Newburyport. Eleven years ago, she moved in with her daughter in Nottingham, N.H. There, she enjoyed spending time with her family camping and going on vacations, working on jigsaw puzzles, floating in the pool, and visiting with her sisters.
Rita is predeceased by her husband, her older sister Jeannette Henderson, her son, Bruce Lewis, and her daughter, Bonnie Grenier. She is survived by her sisters; Irene Guilmette, Helen Metevier, Louise Locke, and Yvonne Ray, and two daughters, Annette Ledoux of Nottingham, N.H. and Lynne Lewis of Raymond, N.H. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Paul Grenier, Christina Sims, Joshua Grenier, Joseph Campano, Jonathan Campano, Taylor Sudol, Logan Ledoux, Mackenzie Ledoux, and six great-grandchildren.
Calling hours for Rita will be held on Monday, Aug. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the E.V. Jutras & Sons Funeral Home 118 Friend St. in Amesbury. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, Aug. 29, at 10:30 a.m. in the Holy Family Parish Church 2 School St., in Amesbury, with a reception to follow in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society or to the Alzheimer's Assoc., 309 Waverley Oaks Dr., Waltham, MA 02452.
