Rita M. (Lavoie)'s Story
Rita Marie (Lavoie) Sevigny, age 87, longtime Amesbury resident, died peacefully at Mary Immaculate Nursing Home in Lawrence, with her family by her side. She was the devoted wife of the late Hector G. Sevigny.
Born in Newburyport, December 3, 1929, she was one of four children of the late Romeo F.X. and Delia (Garand) Lavoie, and was a graduate of Newburyport High School.
Rita was a layout operator, having worked at AT & T until her retirement. In her retirement, Rita and Hector traveled to the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone National Park, and enjoyed wintering in Kissimmee, Fla.
She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church of Amesbury and the Sodality of the Church. She loved knitting and crocheting, making beautiful handcrafted sweaters, scarves, baby blankets and bonnnets for her family, friends and for many church fairs. Rita’s greatest pleasures came from time spent with her family enjoying the simple things in life.
She leaves behind her son, David Sevigny and wife, JoAnne of Salem, N.H.; her daughters, Karen and husband of Pepperell, Susan Petras and husband, Mark of Hayes, VA and Anne Kulik and husband, Stephen of Haverhill; seven wonderful grandchildren, Jr., Joey, Amanda, Johnny, Luke, Evan and Joshua; four great-grandchildren, Lily, Addison, Joel and Paul; her brother, Roger Lavoie and wife, Jeannine of Newton, N.H., and two sisters, Romaine Lavoie of Keene, N.H. and Patricia Cook and husband Paul of Florida, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends, all of whom were very special to her.
The family would like to thank the staff at Mary Immaculate Nursing Home for the exceptional care they provided as well as to the staff at Methuen Village, where she had lived several years.
