Richard P.'s Story
Richard P. Hill, 74, lifelong resident of Newburyport, Massachusetts passed peacefully Thursday morning, November 30, 2017, at Country Center For Health in Newburyport after a lengthy illness. He was surrounded with the love of his family who were by his side.
Richard was born in Newburyport on July 28, 1943, the third of three sons born to the late Lester Q. Hill and his wife, Hazel (Ferris) Hill, also lifelong Newburyport residents. He attended Newburyport schools, graduating from Newburyport High School with the Class of 1961. After graduating Richard soon started his own business as a carpenter and builder. Doing business as Hill Construction Co. throughout Newburyport and surrounding areas, he was well-known for his beautifully meticulous finish and custom quality carpentry, for many years working side by side with his son, Stephen.
In addition to being a dedicated husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Richard was also a lifetime member of the Neptune Veteran Firemen’s Association and New England States Veteran Firemen’s League. Over the years he lent his time and services to various projects involving the Neptune 8 hand tub and the Neptune establishment. He was also a lifetime member and avid supporter of the NRA. Richard enjoyed and took pride in his freedom of gun ownership. He spent many fall seasons deer hunting with his sons, Stephen and David, and friends at the family camp on Province Mountain in East Wakefield, N.H., and numerous other expeditions hunting duck and rabbit with his sons as well as his brother, Robert. He had a love of all things outdoors including camping, fishing, and canoe trips with both his family and lifelong friends. In summer Richard would quite often enjoy long weekends and family gatherings with his wife, children, grandchildren and friends at camp cooking out, taking walks and relaxing on the shore of Province Lake. Holiday gatherings with family and friends at his and Carole’s home were of special importance to him.
Richard leaves behind the love of his life and wife of 55 years, Carole (Hawkes) Hill of Newburyport; two sons, Stephen Hill and wife, Janette of Berwick, Maine, and David Hill of Seabrook, N.H.; a daughter, Jennifer Moore of West Newfield, Maine; seven grandchildren, Stephen Hill Jr, David Hill Jr., Chelsey Moore, Nicole Hill, Connor Moore, Kristen Hill, Zackery Hill; two great-grandchildren, Hazel Hill and Jackson Hill; a brother, Lester Hill and his wife of Seabrook, N.H.; several nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends. Richard was predeceased by his brother, Robert Hill.
