HAVERHILL- Merilyn "Betty" Elizabeth (Meredith) LaFlamme, 89, of Haverhill Crossing, Haverhill, Mass., passed away peacefully on Monday, January 15 at her home.
Born on March 25, 1928 in Cambridge, Maryland to the late Eustace and Naomi Meredith, she was one of six children. On October 4, 1984, she married Gerald R. LaFlamme who passed away in 1988. She is predeceased by her siblings, June, Oliver, Harold, Donald, and George. She is survived by her three children, Carol A. (Nichols) Lagassee and her husband Robert of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Stephen M. Nichols and his wife, Paula, of Hampton Falls, N.H., and Mark M. Nichols and his wife, Katheryn of St. Andrews, NB, Canada; seven grandchildren, Kelli McLaughlin of Salisbury, Mass., Kyle McLaughlin and his wife Debora of Roswell, Ga., Kara (Lagassee) Cotter and her husband, Jim of Exeter, N.H., Kristopher Lagassee of Leesburg, FL, Katie (Nichols) Lovejoy and her husband Jamie of Exeter, N.H., Timothy Nichols and his wife Erin of Hampton Falls, N.H. and Scott Nichols of Hampton Falls, N.H., and 16 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Betty enjoyed creating braided rugs and holiday wreaths she gave as gifts; and not only did she get great pleasure with playing card games, and Chinese checkers, she was also an avid "Scrabble" player. She hosted many family cookouts which always included a "fierce" game of croquet, and on weekends, you could find her at the local dances. She always took great pride in her southern roots. Betty will be missed by many. There will be a private service for family members only. Arrangements are by the E.V. Jutras & Sons Funeral Home in Amesbury.
