Matthew "Matt"'s Story

Text size

Matthew "Matt" Eaton of Salisbury, Mass., passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston after a brief illness. He was born in Newburyport, Mass., on July 8, 1983, to Kenny and Karen Eaton. He was a graduate of Newburyport High School in 2002. He continued his education at the University of Connecticut, graduating with a B.S. in Political Science, and then earned his Master’s in Public Administration from Bridgewater State University. Most recently, he was the Director of Administration for the American Association of Thoracic Surgeons/PRRI.
Matt was loved by all who knew him, and was known for his warm smile, kind heart, and generous manner. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed watching sports, such as WWE, and both college and pro football, with his close group of friends. His greatest joy, though, was vacationing for two weeks each summer at Papoose Pond in Waterford, Maine. During the annual “Papoose trip,” Matt especially enjoyed the “night walks” and the annual mini golf tournaments. The memories that were made with both family and friends during these summer weeks were ones that always brought a smile to his face. A hard-working, dedicated, and thoughtful family member and friend, Matt will be missed tremendously by all.
Matthew is survived by his loving parents, Kenny and Karen Eaton of Newburyport; his aunt, Marcia Jackson of Kennebunk, Maine; his cousins, Bobby Jackson of South Portland, Maine, Mark Jackson of Kennebunk, Maine, Kristen and Merlin Cates, and the latest member of the family, Camden Cates of Kennebunk, Maine. He was predeceased by his beloved grandparents, Gordon and Charlotte McLaughlin of Newburyport and his Uncle “Big Bob” Jackson of Kennebunk, Maine.
Family and friends may call on Thursday, November 10, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Twomey, LeBlanc and Conte Funeral Home, 193 High Street, Newburyport, MA. Parking available behind the funeral home. Funeral services and burial will be private at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, per Matt's request, donations may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in memory of Matthew G. Eaton to support lung cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284, Attn: Dr. Bruce Johnson or via www.dana-farber.org/gift.
