Margaret D. Pacella Merrill Newburyport, MA - Margaret Pacella Merrill, age 94, died peacefully surrounded by her family on November 28 at Port Healthcare in Newburyport. She is predeceased by her husband Gordon who died on October 17 at the same facility. She leaves behind her son Earl Christopher Pacella of Salisbury; her daughter Nancy Griffin of Royalston; grandchildren Monajune Pacella Modini of Salisbury, Scott Griffin of Royalston, and Michelle Kealy Seary of Lunenburg; five great-grandchildren; and two nephews, Steven Vayanos of Andover, and Paul Vayanos of Wareham.


Born in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, she moved to Massachusetts and settled in Cambridge where she married her husband Earl who worked for Cambridge Electric, and she worked as a secretary for the Flash Chemical Company. They moved to Malden in 1957. Earl died in 1974. She married Gordon Merrill a few years later and they settled in Nashua, N.H. Margaret worked for many years as an executive secretary for Camp, Dresser and Mackey an architectural firm in Boston.

After retirement she and Gordon spent their winters in Sarasota, Florida, and summers in Nashua, N.H.

After developing Alzheimer's disease, she resided for two years at the Arbors of Bedford, N.H., before being transferred to Port Healthcare to be closer to her son.


The family would like to express their heartfelt thank you to the dedicated nurses at the Port and the staff of Harborside Hospice for their excellent care, compassion, and support. There are no calling hours or religious services.
