Lillian (Sande) Carey

Lillian (Sande) Carey Lillian (Sande) Carey, 97, of Newburyport, former longtime Merrimac resident, lived happily for eight-and-a-half years at the Elizabeth Calsey House in Amesbury before moving to Country Center in Newburyport, where she passed peacefully early Friday morning, June 9, 2017, with her loving family by her side. She was the devoted wife of 65 years of the late Maurice Carey, who passed on August 25, 2006.
Born in Merrimac on October 16, 1919, she was one of six children of the late Gunnar M. and Ragnhild N. (Lovgren) Sande, and was a graduate of the former Merrimac High School.
For many years, Lillian worked as a teller at the former Merrimac Savings Bank, and had been an active member at the Merrimacport United Methodist Church of Merrimac and Camp Hedding in Epping, N.H.
She leaves behind her two daughters, Norma Dickey and husband, Richard of Plaistow, N.H., and Robin Carey and husband, Robert of Exeter, N.H.; her six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, who brought her unending joy; her sister, Hortense “Sandy” Lafaver; along with numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, extended family members and dear friends. She was predeceased by her son, Norman Wayne Carey; her sister, Nordis A. Walker; and her three brothers, Norman A. “Gunnar” Sande, G. Roy Sande, and Charles F. Sande.
A “Celebration of Life” service will be held at the Merrimacport United Methodist Church, 39 High St., Merrimac on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at 2 p.m. Burial in Locust Grove Cemetery, Merrimac, will be private for the family. Donations in her memory may be made to Merrimacport United Methodist Church, 39 High St., Merrimac, MA 01860; or to Constellation Hospice, 180 Low St., Newburyport, MA 01950. Arrangements are by Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 36 West Main St., Merrimac.
