AMESBURY - Lenita (Chase) Miller, age 89, lifelong Amesbury, resident, died peacefully Sunday evening, February 4, 2018, at Country Center Nursing Home in Newburyport.
One of three children of the late Joshua L. and Melvina E. (Stevens) Chase, Jr., she was born in Amesbury on April 20, 1928 and was a graduate of Amesbury High School, Class of 45, then went on to graduate from Burdette Business College in Lynn.
Lenita had worked at the former Northeast National Bank in Amesbury for some years, then became the Tax Collector for the Town of Amesbury, a position she held for almost 20 years.
She was a longtime active member of Main Street Congregational Church as well as a member of the Social Circle of the Church. She enjoyed tutoring GED classes through the Haverhill Public Library and for many years volunteered as a reader for 3rd graders at the Cashman School. Lenita has been an avid bridge player over the past years, and was a former member of the Haverhill Art Association.
She leaves behind her two sons, Glenn D. Miller and wife Jan of Salt Lake City, Utah and John L. Miller and wife Bonnie Herrick of Raymond, N.H.; three grandchildren, Laurel Ashley Miller-Jones and husband Garrett of UT; Joshua E. Miller and wife, Erin of Greenland, NH and Alyison Miller of Raymond, N.H.; three great-grandchildren, Madeleine Jones, Ryan Miller and Lindsey Miller, with one more soon to arrive; a brother, Robert W. Chase, along with extended family members and dear friends. She was predeceased by her former husband, Douglas M. Miller, her daughter, Janice Miller and her brother, Thomas Chase.
Visiting hours at the Highland Street Chapel of Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, will be Tuesday, February 13, 2018 from 3 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers and in her honor, please consider a memorial contribution to the Main Street Congregational Church, 145 Main Street, Amesbury, MA 01913.
