LaForrest's Story

Text size

NEWTON, NH- LaForrest "Forry" Perkins, Jr., 69, passed away peacefully on Feb. 14th with his wife and sister holding his hands. A longtime resident of Newton, NH, LaForrest grew up in Amesbury and was the son of the late LaForrest Sr. and Helena (Grogan) Perkins.
Forry attended Amesbury High School and proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He supported our troops and his license plate announced "X-Navy." He was known as "Perky" to his coworkers and was employed for many years at Honeywell in Lawrence and then at SAFC HiTech in Haverhill, MA.
Forry was a sweetheart of a man, strong and gentle. A man with integrity and goodness of heart and a great laugh. He was always quick to lend a helping hand, kind and thoughtful. And yes, he had a mischievous twinkle. He'd leave "guess who" presents on neighbors' doorsteps. He'd drop off groceries for the Newton Pantry, ring the doorbell and then making his getaway. No thanks necessary. He was quietly charitable and helpful. Forry was famous for bringing treats: candy, Famous Amos cookies, whatever it was that he knew you were most fond of. He carried dog biscuits in his truck and dogs everywhere adored him. You could always find him outdoors, no matter what the weather. He was a confirmed homebody. He'd travel a bit for vacations, but only because he liked to please his wife. He'd rather be home, working in the yard.
Forry was gifted with the art of listening. From the littlest kid telling him stories and singing him songs to adults of all ages, he took the time and listened intently to what you had to say. Do you know how cherished that makes you feel? Whether you knew him as LaForrest, Forry or Perky, this wonderful man made a difference in your life. He is going to be so very much missed by his wife, Cheryl "Cherie" of Newton, NH, sister, Donna Doerr and husband, Alan of Londonderry, NH., his much-loved aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his cherished next-door neighbors.
Calling hours will be held for Forry this Sunday Feb. 18 from 2-4 pm at the E.V. Jutras & Sons Funeral Home, 118 Friend St. in Amesbury. Burial with military honors will take place on Saturday, February 24 at 10 a.m. in the Union Cemetery in Amesbury. All are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Career Resources Corp, 22 Parkridge Road, Unit-D Haverhill MA 01835 or go to http://www.crc-mass.org/about-us/donate/ Forry chose CRC for donations in appreciation of their care for his cousin, Tim Grogan, who was a client there.
