Joyce M. (Peck) Clark, 87, longtime Merrimac resident, died surrounded by her loved ones after a short illness at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport on April 7, 2017.

Born on April 3, 1930, in Houlton, Maine, she was one of eight children born to the late Arnold S. and Sarah E. (Healy) Peck. The family moved to East Kingston, New Hampshire, where Joyce attended elementary school then went on to graduate from Sanborn Seminary High School in Kingston, N.H. She married Alva “Buddy” Clark in 1949 and had a son, Dennis.

Joyce worked in the restaurant business in Merrimac before her 25 year career at AT&T, formerly Western Electric, in North Andover. She was a lifelong member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the CWA No. 1365.

Joyce and Buddy loved Bingo, traveling to visit friends and relatives, and won a “trip of a lifetime” to Ireland. Joyce was an excellent cook and baker and created beautiful art and needlework. Joyce was actively involved with the Merrimacport United Methodist Church, where she volunteered endlessly with whatever needed to be done. Joyce was always just a phone call away.

She is survived by her foster son, Dudley Farquhar and his wife, Barbara of Merrimac; her grandson, Sean Clark and his wife, Cortney of Duvall, Washington; her three precious great-grandchildren, Dennis, Nora and Wesley Clark of Duvall, Washington; two sisters, Reta Lamb of Brentwood, N.H., and Laqueita Sampson of Longs, S.C.; and dear friends, Eunice and Stanley Hardy and Steven Dwyer, all of Merrimac. She is further survived by a legion of nieces, nephews, their spouses and offspring, who all loved and lovingly cared for their Aunt Joyce. She was predeceased by her husband, Buddy; her son, Dennis; and her siblings, Stanley, Helen, Ethel, Mildred, Ruby and Virginia.

The family wishes to thank the Merrimac Police and Fire Departments as well as the Amesbury Fire Department for their quick and professional response in our time of need.
A celebration of life at the Merrimacport United Methodist Church and burial at Locust Grove Cemetery will be held at a later date. There will be no visiting hours. To honor Joyce’s memory, donations may be directed to the United Methodist Church, 39 High Street, Merrimacport, MA 01860. Arrangements are by Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 36 West Main Street, Merrimac.
