Joseph Edward "Ed"'s Story
Joseph Edward "Ed" Roy, died peacefully on July 6, 2017, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, Mass. from natural causes. He was 84.
Ed was born on October 3, 1932, in Newburyport, Mass., and was the only son of J. Sandy and Alice Roy (née Losier).
Ed graduated from Amesbury High School in 1951 and the University of New Hampshire in 1955, and was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity.
He married Jean (née Connors) on May 5, 1957. They had five children and 11 grandchildren.
Ed retired from Xerox Corporation in 1989 and enjoyed traveling, genealogy, and reading. They retired to Lakeland, Fla., where Ed enjoyed power walking, and participating in the Florida Senior Games in shotput, javelin, and discus competitions throughout the state. Ed and Jean moved back to the family home on Lake Attitash in Amesbury in 2002. In the spring of 2016, they both moved into Haverhill Crossings Assisted Living in Haverhill, Mass. Ed received excellent care by their family oriented staff right up until his final day.
Ed is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean; their daughter and son-in-law, Alicia and Larry Smith of Amesbury; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Alex Katsoolias of Gurnee, Ill.; son, John Roy of St. Paul, Minn.; daughter, Sandra Roy of Naperville, Ill.; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Scott Hadwen of Amesbury; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Ryan Smith.
Private services are by the E.V. Jutras & Sons Funeral Home in Amesbury.
