Rowley, MA - John C. Tiernan of Rowley, Mass., passed away unexpectedly on June 26, 2019, at the Brigham Manor Rehabilitation Facility in Newburyport, Mass.

John was born on October 1, 1942, in Arlington, Mass. He was the son of the late John "Jackie" Tiernan and Marjorie (Curran) McVey.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Tiernan; and grandson, Derek Cataldo.

John is survived by his two daughters, Deborah Stephanides of Salem, Mass., along with her husband, Steve, who was like a son to John and Laurie Cataldo of Groveland, Mass. In addition, he leaves five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a niece and several cousins.

For many years, John was the proprietor of many auto body repair and restoration businesses. He was a longtime resident of Rowley, Mass., and a past member of the Newbury/Rowley Lions Club.

In his spare time, John enjoyed cooking and fishing, but his true passion was racing. Nothing made John happier than working with Eddie McDonald and his race team. John was very proud of Eddie McDonald's accomplishments and truly loved and admired him.

John had a huge heart and would do anything for anybody if he could. He will truly be missed by all.

A memorial service will be planned at a later date.

"Yes, there were times I'm sure you knew when I bit off more than I could chew,
But through it all, when there was doubt, I chewed it up and spit it out.
I faced it all and I stood tall and did it my way."

Until we meet again, rest in peace, JT.
