NEWBURYPORT, MA - John (Jack) F. Coughlin, 82, retired police captain, Haverhill, Massachusetts, passed away unexpected March 12, 2018. "Pappa," as he was known to his grandchildren and those close to him, was a decorated police officer, avid golfer, devoted husband, dedicated father, and tremendous grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joan (Klein); son, Kevin and wife, Nancy Coughlin, their children, Kevin, Macey and Nathan; precious daughter, Kathy and husband, Eric Marshall, and their daughter, Erin; sister, Elaine and husband, Angelo Diodati; brother, William and wife, Ann Coughlin; brother, John Houle and wife, Jean; brother-in-law, Ernest Young; as well as countless nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Young.
John Coughlin was a man who set an example for others to emulate and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, March 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the E. V. Jutras & Sons Funeral Home, 118 Friend Street, Amesbury, MA, with a funeral to be held, Friday, March 16, at 11 a.m., at Star of the Sea Church, 18 Beach Road, Salisbury, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
