DALTON, NH - John O. Cashman, 73, of Dalton, former longtime West Newbury resident, passed away Sunday morning, January 14th, at Littleton Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband for 49 years of Deborah (Pike) Cashman.
Born in Lynn, November 13, 1944, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Dorothy E. (Hanscom) Cashman and was a graduate of Pentucket Regional High School, Class of 1963.
John retired in 2000 after working 37 years at General Electric, Lynn.
John especially loved the outdoors. Growing up, he could always be found hunting, fishing or playing ice hockey. As he got older, he became an avid downhill skier, water skier and took up rollerblading. After retirement, John and his wife relocated to the beautiful White Mountains of NH, where they could spend their days hiking, kayaking, biking and cross country skiing with their friends. John will always be remembered for his sense of humor, infectious smile, strong handshake and a friendly 'Hi! How are you doing?' to everyone he would meet.
He is survived by his daughter, Erin Cashman Downes and her husband, David, of Raymond, NH; granddaughter, Amanda; step-grandsons, Ryan and Colby; sister-In-Law Lisa Pike Hayes and her husband, Walter of Merrimac; brother-In-law, Harry E. Pike III and his wife, Heather of Pittsfield, N.H.; sister-in-law, Julie Cashman of Wolfeboro, NH and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Daniel C. Cashman and Steven W. Cashman and sister-in-law, Carol Pike Doane.
In keeping with the wishes of John, there will be no funeral services. He had a great love of animals if you would like to make a charitable donation to the ASPCA in his name at www.aspca.org/donate.
