Jean (Meek) Hicks's Story
SALISBURY, MA - Jean (Meek) Hicks Howes, of Salisbury, age 83, wife of the late Robert Howes and the late George Hicks, passed away Dec. 21, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was born July 13,1934, in Newburyport, the eldest daughter of the late George P. and Lunetta P. (Dow) Meek. Jean graduated from Amesbury High School in 1952.
She worked for many years at Western Electric and later became a hair stylist in Newburyport.
Her family was the focus of her life and nothing made her happier than to cook and share a meal with them. Christmas was her favorite time of year and she enjoyed baking dozens of Christmas cookies and making chocolates to share with friends and family. She was a life - long member of the East Parish United Methodist Church in Salisbury and enjoyed singing in the choir and being an active member of the congregation. She also enjoyed traveling with her friends and spending time in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Jean is survived by her four children, Kevin J. Hicks and his wife, Annette of Salisbury, Kyle F. Howes of Salisbury, Karyn-Beth (Howes) Mercer and her husband, Keith of Salisbury and Karol-Lee Howes of Hampton Falls, N.H.; four grandchildren, Jamie Hicks and her fiancé Michael Boudreau, Courtney Hicks, Keegan Howes and Kaelyn Mercer, and a great grandson, Michael K. Boudreau. She is also survived by her sister, Judith P. (Meek) Lane of Salisbury, and a nephew, Brian Lane and wife Caroline of Kennebunk, Maine, along with two great nephews and numerous cousins.
A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at at 10 a.m. at the East Parish United Methodist Church, 8 Lafayette Rd, Salisbury, MA 01952. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to United Cerebral Palsy, 1825 K Street NW, Suite 600, Washington, DC 20006. Arrangements are under the directions of the Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Homes, 35 Green Street, Newburyport.
