April 23, 1949 - November 29, 2018

Janet L. Brennan Merrimac, MA - Janet L. Brennan, age 69, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 29, 2018, with her family at her side.

Janet was born on April 23, 1949, in London, U.K., to Jessie Gunn Mackay. After growing up in Romford, U.K., Janet met her late husband Michael J. Brennan, a medic in the U.S. Air Force who was stationed partially in England during the Vietnam War. The two were married and Janet eventually emigrated to her husband’s hometown of Lynn, Mass., with their two young children, Karen and Sean.

After immigrating to the United States, Janet worked as a longtime telephone operator, last being at Tewksbury State Hospital. After retiring, Janet relocated to Amesbury, Mass., where she was known by most as “Nana.”

Nana will be remembered for cracking jokes and spending time with her family and friends.

Nana is survived by her daughter, Karen Foley and husband, Shawn, of Amesbury, Mass.; son, Sean Brennan of Athol, Mass.; brother, Russell Harding and wife, Gill, of Chelmsford, U.K.; sister, Christine Carroll of Arizona; grandchildren, Patrick and Ryan Foley of Amesbury, Mass., Eric and Brianna Yates of Des Plaines, Ill., Sean, Shea, and Brylie Brennan of Athol, Mass.; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends, who loved her dearly.

Calling hours at the E.V. Jutras & Sons Funeral Home, 118 Friend St., Amesbury, MA, will be held this Saturday, Dec. 8, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., followed by a service and burial in the Union Cemetery in Amesbury. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
