James S.'s Story
James S. Miller, 81, a 22-year resident of Waterville, Vt., passed away peacefully November 20, 2017 at the Manor Nursing Home with family members by his side after a short battle with cancer.
He was born May 5, 1936 in Charleston, S.C., son of Virginia (Sharples) and James C. Miller. He served his country in the Army Military Police. He had a long rewarding career as a Corporate Purchasing Office manager employed by Sears, Roebuck and Company. He also was employed at Holy Angels in Belmont, NC as well as at the Johnson Woolen Mills in Johnson Vt.
He was dedicated to his wife Frances M. (Rogers) Miller, caring for her for many years while she battled Parkinson’s disease, who passed away January 31, 2017.
He enjoyed golfing, puzzles, cards, reading and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved volunteering at the Manor Nursing Home enjoying the company of others.
Survivors include his children, James D. Miller of Port St. Lucie, Fla., David C. Miller of Milford, Gayle Mahl of Belmont, N.C., Cathy Hughes of Waterville, Vt.; siblings Claire Granger and Robert Miller, along with many grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at Bartlett Cemetery, Main Street, Amesbury. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to The Manor’s Life Enrichment Program, 577 Washington Hwy. Morrisville, VT 05661. Arrangements are by Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury.
