MALDEN, MA - Gillian R. Swart, 64, of Malden (also of London, Christ Church Barbados, Clio, Mich., Flint, Mich., Boston, and Plum Island/Newburyport), died suddenly on November 18, 2017, at home. A lifelong traveler, writer, and journalist, she worked for periodicals, including East Village Magazine, the Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology, the Newburyport Current, and the Malden Observer. She spent her later years surrounded by family, felines, and her beloved garden. She is survived by her father, Fred Swart, of Gloucester; sisters, Sarah Swart (Victor Semensi), of Gloucester, and Helen Mazarakis (Philip Mazarakis), of Malden; brother, Myron Swart, of Gloucester; siblings, including Peter, Millar, and Rachel St. John, of Barbados, and David Arthur, and Dawn Homann, of Barbados; and niece and nephews, Michael Semensi, of San Francisco, Alexandra Mazarakis, of Quincy, and James Mazarakis, of Malden. She is predeceased by mother Elizabeth Swart, birth father Eric St. John, siblings, Freddie and Sadie St. John; and niece, D. Elizabeth Semensi.
