Geraldine Ruggles, 83, of Amesbury, passed away peacefully after a short illness on April 29, 2017. Geraldine was the wife of the late Aubrey Ruggles and the late Paul (Tom) Nichols. She was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts on September 23, 1933, to Raymond Beaudoin and Orise (Marcotte) Beaudoin.
Geraldine attended Saint James Parochial School and Haverhill High School, earning a GED a bit later in life. Geraldine married Mr. Nichols in February 1954, and together they raised seven children, all who remain in the area, Brian Nichols, Donna Morse, Sherie Bourgeois, Lisa J.Kimball, Jeffrey Nichols, Lisa M. Nichols and Julie Nichols.
Geraldine is also survived by her brother, Paul Beaudoin of Winter Springs, Florida, and she was a loving Memere to her surviving cherished grandchildren, Caitlin Nichols, Tyler Nichols, Lara Nichols, Cameron Nichols, Zachary Kimball and Jacob Bourgeois. She was preceded in death by both her beloved brother, Gerard Beaudoin and sister, Orise Gutoski.
Geraldine’s life passion was caring for those who were unable to take care of themselves. As a foster parent she took into her home and her heart over 30 foster children, providing all with a nurturing safe haven, a loving home and a fresh start in life. Among them was Carl Collin who has remained close with Geraldine and her family throughout the years.
She continued this passion for care-giving as a longtime Nursing Assistant at the Eastwood Nursing Home and Maplewood Manor in Amesbury. Geraldine had a wonderful zest for life and loved adventure. As if seven kids wasn’t enough, her children still remember loading up the car with a picnic lunch and heading off on daily summer trips to the local beaches and annual vacations to the White Mountains, with White Lake being a favorite destination. Geraldine was also an excellent cook and baker, always testing out old and new recipes on her family and friends.

Visitation and funeral services will be Friday, May 5, 2017, at E. V. Jutras & Sons Funeral Home, 118 Friend St. in Amesbury. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., with the funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Geraldine’s name to the Massachusetts Adoption Resources, www.mareinc.org, that works to find adoptive homes for children and teens waiting in foster care.
