Geraldine E. (Gates)'s Story
Geraldine Elizabeth (Gates) Quill, age 97, longtime resident of Newbury, passed peacefully Tuesday afternoon, September 19, 2017, at her home, in the loving presence of her family. She was the devoted wife of Daniel Peter Quill, who died September 12, 2007. Whenever asked how long she had been married, her reply was always, “Not long enough.”
Born in Salem, Mass. on April 15, 1920, she was a graduate of Essex Agricultural School.
An avid golfer and member of the Old Newbury Golf Club for many years, she especially loved golfing with her husband. She was also passionate about sewing, cooking, music and dancing, activities that she gladly shared with her family and friends.
Those left behind to treasure the tender memories of her life are her two daughters, Patricia Quill of Newbury and Linda Quill Johnson and husband Larry of Rotunda West, Fla.; her granddaughter, Jessica Johnson Dyar and husband James of Ventura, Calif.; her great-grandchild, Cassidy Quill Dyar, along with extended family members and dear friends. Although their hearts are aching, the thought of her re-union with her ever so beloved husband, Dan, brings comfort and assurance that they are now eternally wrapped in each others arms, never to be separated again.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, 42 Green Street, Newburyport, followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Newburyport. By request of the family, there will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack Street, Lawrence, MA 01843 in appreciation of the compassionate care they provided Geraldine during her time of passing. Arrangements are by Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport.
