Gerald "Jake"'s Story
SOUTH HAMPTON, NH - Gerald A. "Jake" McPhail passed away on December 20, 2017, in Ocala, Fla.
Born in Brattleboro, Vt., Jake was the son of the late Allan Rogers McPhail Sr. and Elizabeth Kelly (Rose) McPhail. Jake was raised and educated in Gloucester, Mass., a 1956 graduate of St. Ann's High School. Remembered fondly by lifelong friends and family as a happy guy, with a great sense of humor, as big as life itself, Jake could make anyone laugh.
He was predeceased by his wife, Carol (Zarkowsky) McPhail of South Hampton, N.H. Jake is survived by his two daughters, E. Kelly McPhail and her husband, Michael Walker of Bonney Lake, Wash., and Kimberly McPhail of Massachusetts; his granddaughter, Christen (Davis) Chados and her husband, Michael Chados; their children, Jake's great-grandchildren, Sophia Chados and Nicholas Chados of Gainesville, Fla.; his grandson, Justin "Jay" Davis and his wife, Claire Davis of Issaquah, Wash. Besides his wife, daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jake is survived by a sister, Jane (McPhail) Carpenter and her husband, Sam Carpenter of Brookfield, Conn.; along with their son, Jake's nephew, Alex Carpenter and his wife, Yoko, also of Brookfield, Conn. Jake was predeceased by a brother, Allan "Bebo" McPhail, and survived by Bebo's wife, his sister-in-law, Joyce McPhail of Gloucester, and their grown children, Jake's nieces and nephew, Patti (McPhail) Spray of Madison, Neb., Deborah (McPhail) Greene of Beverly, Scott McPhail and his wife, Cherie McPhail of Gloucester, and Susan (McPhail) Shoares and her husband, Peter Shoares, also of Gloucester. He is also survived by a wonderful lifelong friend, Henry Rossi of Rockport, Mass., as well as many cousins, great-nieces and nephews.
Jake was a great friend of animals. He loved and cherished his many dogs and cats that he rescued over the years. They were a very important part of his life.
