George E. Schofield, 83, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and East Harwich, MA, formerly of West Newbury, MA, died Friday, December 22, at Palm Beach Gardens Emergency in Palm Beach Gardens.
Born in North Andover, MA, on September 10, 1934, a son of the late Carl and Muriel Schofield, he was a graduate of North Andover High School in the class of 1952 and the University of Massachusetts Amherst, class of 1959.
Before his retirement, George was the owner of Georgetown Insurance Agency and served two terms as President of the Dalton Club in Newburyport, MA. He was also a veteran of the Korean War.
George is survived by a son, Stephen Schofield and his betrothed, Mary Rivard of Salisbury, MA; a daughter, Sarah Santos and her husband, Chris of Old Orchard Beach, ME; two grandchildren, Eric Santos and his wife, Jessie of Portland, ME, and Nicolas Santos of Old Orchard Beach; a brother, Carl of Gloucester, MA; a former wife, Sheila Schofield, currently living in Aix en Provence, France; and many nieces and nephews.
George is also survived by his long-time life companion, Aldona Zitkas; her two children, Joanie Shea of Worcester, MA, and Linda Hetel of Myrtle Beach, SC; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his sister, Marjorie Jordan of Framingham, MA.
A celebration of life will be held on June 30, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Dalton Club, 95 State St., Newburyport.
