Florence (Simpson) Roy

Events

Merrimac - Florence (Simpson) Roy, age 92, longtime Merrimac resident, died Tuesday evening, September 2, 2019, at the Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, surrounded by her devoted family.

Born in Boston, July 30, 1927, she was the daughter of Scottish immigrants, Peter and Lexy (Ferguson) Simpson.

"Ama," as she was known by many, was employed by the the Merwin Free Clinic for animals in Allston, Mass., for many years.

Her home at Lake Attitash in Merrimac was the focal point of all gatherings for family and friends alike, and Ama was always ready to welcome anyone at anytime. She thoroughly enjoyed being the gracious hostess that she was, and a good time was always had by everyone.

Her life's memories will continue to be treasured by her beloved husband of 63 years, Alfred Roy of Merrimac; her daughter, Lisa A. Brucker and husband Steven of N. Andover; her son, Peter Roy of Boston; her extra special grandchildren, Lexy Johnson and husband James, Lauren Spicer and husband Jared and Alec Brucker; her two grandnieces, Jean Libby and husband Frank and their children, and Holly Langmaid and husband Steve and their children; her grandnephew, Dane Norton and Leah and their son; a first cousin, William McDonald, whom Florence thought of as a brother; her close friends, Joy Azar of Arlington and Patti Trombly of N. Andover, along with extended family members and many dear friends. She will always be in their hearts.

Ama is now joyfully reunited with her beloved canine companion, Fergie, who passed away this past July.

By request of the family, there will be no services at this time. A Celebration of her Life will take place at the lake, where her ashes will be spread at a later time. Arrangements are by Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 36 West Main Street, Merrimac.
