Salisbury, MA - Edward L "Ted" Irvin, age 82, of Salisbury, passed away Thursday evening, August 8, 2019, at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newbuyrport,
Ted was predeceased by his wife, Barbara K (Owens) Irvin, his father Richard Franklin Irvin, his stepfather Earle C Mello, his mother Avis R (Tanner) Mello, his son Derek J Irvin and granddaughter Corissa Irvin. He leaves his fiancé Stacie Lynn Whittier and mother in law Lesley Whittier of Georgetown MA , his sons Richard Frank Irvin of Seabrook NH and Bret J Irvin of Salisbury MA, his sister Ellen (Bremmie) Thurlow and her husband, John Thurlow of West Newbury; his brother, William G Irvin and his wife Rosanne (Favazza) of Gloucester, and his sister Mary Mckillop (Mello) and Al George of Brookfield NH.
Ted graduated from Gloucester High School in 1954, completing the 3 year ROTC program. He attended Bentley School of Accounting and Finance in Boston MA, and graduated from Ohio Christian College.
He served 8 years in the US Army reserve and was discharged as a Sergeant E5 in 1962. He served 2 years active duty at Fort Sill in Oklahoma then known as U.S. Army Artillery Missile center of the world. Ted graduated from the first Non-commissioned Officers Academy held at Fort Sill in Oklahoma.
Ted enjoyed volunteering and spent his life giving back. Ted was very active in the Lions Club, serving as Salisbury Lions Treasurer, President, Secretary, and was recognized as Lion of the Year for the club, District, and State levels. Ted held many leadership offices in District 33N (Northeast MA) including District Governor, District Cabinet Secretary and Treasurer. He was past president recognized with sponsor award with the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund, Leadership Award, 5 International Certificates of Appreciation and progressive Melvin Jones Fellow.
Ted was very active in the senior community also. He served on the Board of Directors, Northern Essex Elder Transport and Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley; Council on Aging 8 years, 5 as director. He was appointed as Notary Public in 1962 and reappointed to seven additional 7- year terms. After retirement he performed Notary services free to seniors and nursing homes.
Ted also served on Salisbury Chamber of commerce for 15 years and Friends of the Library. Ted is also a life member of the Society of Notaries, served as secretary, treasurer, and chairman of the board. He is also a Life member of the National Notary Association and Life member of the Automotive Hall of Fame. Ted was also a member of the Federation of Planning Boards, Board of Appeals, Massachusetts Conservation Committee, Merrimac Valley Regional Planning Commission, seven years on the executive committee and 5 as secretary. Ted was named to the Friends of the Salisbury Council on Aging, Friends of the Salisbury Public Library, VFW Auxiliary Post 1088, member of the Essex Greenbelt Association, Merrimack River Watershed Council, Institute of Management Accountants, and Salisbury Historical Society.
Visiting hours at the Highland Chapel of Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury on Friday, August 16, 2019 from 4 to 8 p.m. The members of Lions District 33N will gather at the funeral home on Friday, Aug. 16th at 4 p.m. Funeral Services to be held at the East Parish United Methodist Church, 8 Lafayette Road, Salisbury, MA on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 1 p.m. A private Burial will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory can be to The Friends of the Salisbury Council on Aging (FSCOA) P.O. Box 5593, Salisbury, MA 01952.

I have known Ted for many many years through the COA and ESMV, as well as through his connection with the Lions. He was a kind and gentle soul and I will miss him! God Bless.
